Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+

There will be future Bugattis that pack even more punch, shaving whole tenths of second off the Super Sport’s acceleration times. But they won’t have the symphony of power and forward motion that this car offers.

The Super Sport is the perfect culmination for the Chiron’s legacy. It expands the limits of what experts and cars can do.

Aerodynamics

There are cars that change an era—the Type 35 transformed motor racing, the Type 41 Royale redefined opulence, and now the Chiron Super Sport 300+ breaks new boundaries of speed.

The 300+ is a reimagined version of the production Chiron built to break the world record of 273 miles per hour. It features advanced aerodynamics that are optimized for extremely high speeds. The goal is to balance low drag with plenty of downforce to improve stability and performance.

To achieve this, Bugatti engineers tweaked the front air intakes to allow 8% more airflow, and added “Air Curtains” to better direct airflow along the side of the car. Then, they stretched the rear-end to help hold laminar flow and slapped on a big diffuser at the bottom of the backside.

Power

There will be cars that can go faster than the Bugatti Chiron Super Sport. They may be able to shave whole tenths of a second off of its acceleration times. But they won’t have its power.

The 8.0-liter, quad-turbo W16 under the hood in this car makes a whopping 1578 horsepower. That’s more than enough to get the car from 0 to 60 in just 2.3 seconds and hit a top speed of 261 mph.

That massive amount of power isn’t just hype, either. We put a Chiron Super Sport on our high-tech dynamometer and found it produced 1,228 pound-feet of torque, which is 19 more than the company originally advertised. The result? An utterly unforgettable driving experience.

Performance

In addition to its staggering speed and power, the CHIRON Super Sport offers an unparalleled driving experience. It accelerates extremely precisely, drives comfortably at high speeds and effortlessly reaches its top speed. This car pushes the boundaries of technology and performance like no other.

As you might imagine, it’s not cheap. The 300+ version of the Chiron costs a jaw-dropping $3 million, but you’ll get a lot of car for your money. It packs a special version of the 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W-16 engine nicknamed “Thor,” and produces a surprisingly healthy 1578 horsepower. That may not be enough to break the 273mph mark set by the record-setting car, but it’s more than plenty for a road-legal hypercar. It also gets bigger turbos to wring out even more power.

Design

The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport 300+, which set a production car world record of over 300 mph in its most recent run, is a masterpiece that balances brutal power and speed into a balanced, hyper capable mechanical entity. It’s a testament to technical finesse, extremely high-quality workmanship and a genuine passion for detail.

The engineers at Bugatti worked very closely with Dallara, a firm renowned for chassis development. They made a number of important adjustments to the car’s aerodynamics, too. The most visible change is the long tail, which reduces aerodynamic stall by over 40%.

Additional changes include front air curtains to help with negative lift at extreme speeds and reduce drag by 44%. Also, the outlets at the front wheel arches help disperse excess pressure from the wheels and create streamlined downforce.

Interior

In an age when the most impressive hypercars are geared for full electric power, it is still impressive that Bugatti can still deliver such a hammer-blow of performance with its petrol engined Chiron. Its one-of-a-kind interior accentuates its status as a truly exceptional car.

This 2022 Bugatti Super Sport 300+ is a limited-production variant built to celebrate the company’s 110th anniversary. It is modeled closely after the prototype used for the record-breaking run. The chassis is based on the Chiron Sport, but with changes to aerodynamics and power output. The rear end is enlarged to maintain laminar flow around the bodywork at extreme speeds, and to provide the perfect balance between downforce and drag. This enables the Super Sport to achieve its incredible top speed.
